Welcome to the *new* Desiree Dawn Events!

Hello world! Oh, goodness...this post has been a year in the making. Needless to say, I am thrilled to introduce you to the new and improved Desiree Dawn Events! I hear it's best to start from the beginning, right? So, here goes...

A major 2012 goal of mine was to give my business a fresh look; something professional, on-trend, personal & fun! After doing a bit of research, I realized what I wanted was a brand identity. Included in that brand identity was aligning with publications & marketing outlets that share similar styles as DDE. For me, this meant targeting potential clients via wedding blogs & magazines, as well as investing time with my business relationships. Southern Weddings had recently awarded me a Blue Ribbon Vendor badge & Weddings Chicks was featuring my Bohemian Food Truck styled shoot. I thought there had to be other publications that targeted the kind of clients I wanted to work with.

Enter, Floridian Weddings. I heard & read nothing but good things so, I reached out to Laura & Becca to find out how I could become a part of it. Laura invited me to her adorable studio that just so happened to be (literally) walking distance from my house. What was supposed to be a quick introduction & exchange of marketing materials turned into a three hour obsess-fest...& the best meeting I've ever had. During that conversation, Laura asked me a series of questions:

Are you interested in studio space? No.
Have you thought of hiring a designer to create a brand for DDE? No.
Do you want to be a wedding blogger? No.

That was early February. By April 1st, Laura had a signed lease agreement plus a rent check from me. I began my brand identity hunt with Braizen (her recommendation) in May. And by June, I was an official co-editor of Floridian Weddings. Yup. That all happened that quickly.

Meanwhile, I was watching my two year old endeavor sprout into a flourishing full-service wedding planning business; fifteen weddings in 2012, a handful of photo shoots, & several online publications plus two in print! To say I felt lucky would be the understatement of the century. Blessed. Overwhelmed...

HAPPY!

Along this epic journey, I began a kind of soul searching with Ashley & her team at Braizen. It seems silly to think about now, but I was really emotional during our conversations about what I wanted my business to be & who I wanted the world to see me as. My mother was a hot topic of conversation during our phone meetings; the house she designed, her love of flamingos, & her constant guidance in my life. Recently to this time, she had undergone a series of health scares & those events shook me to my core. I was missing my mom so much & had an overwhelming sense of her presence during my very busy year. All that said, she became an instrumental inspiration to my new brand.

It took a few weeks, but by the time we narrowed down my colors, fonts, & graphic elements, I was so completely head-over-heels with what I was seeing: pinky-corals, modern floral patterns with vintage shapes, swirly lovely script...and two different letter D's! Little secret: The house I grew up in is pink with pink carpet & pink antique-style furniture, my mother's china pattern is Tea Rose, & my name, Desiree Dawn, means "a longing for a new day".

So, there I was with this shiny new start! A beautiful brand, a growing business, a new adventure with Laura & Becca, & an expanding group of supporters. Next up...finding the perfect website template to show off all of my hard work! Except you can't expect to plug-in this beautifully creative look into a design that wasn't made just for me. For this reason & the fact that the graphic designers of the world would come out of the word-works to get me...I decided I needed something a bit more custom. After a quick consult with the Braizen team, their blessing, & some pretty easy convincing over some fresh mango margaritas...I persuaded Laura to finish up my re-brand with a new website! Okay, who am I kidding? She was, obviously, my only choice!

I always say, "I'll never understand how I got so lucky". What an incredible support network I have. Thank you to everyone who has cheered me on since the start, who has agreed to participate in one of my crazy inspiration shoots, & those who have trusted in me to make their day a dream come true. To Ashley: thank you for your patience & for calling me out with regards to my apparent love affair with pink. Closet pink addict! Laura: What can I say? You are the yin to my yang, the barrel to my keg, & the modern to my vintage. I'm so glad you're in my world, I can't wait to see what's in store for us, & I am eternally grateful for all the effort & advice you've given me (in life & on my site!). And Mom: (tears already) You've always been the best cheerleader, facebook fan, bragger, & critique. Keep it up, Lord knows I need ya! I love you to the moon and back. And finally, to my Bubba: Your unending support astounds me. You've been more than a partner in this endeavor, you're my rock in ways I can't even name. For all the quiet nights with us on either ends of the couch, you letting me work well past our bedtime, and for all the mornings you've brought me coffee or something delicious, I thank you. THANK YOU ALL for inspiring me, helping me craft my own vision, & making this beautiful website such a lovely reflection of how I see the world. Yes, through rose colored glasses! Thank you!

Special thanks to Shea Christine & Chelsey Boatwright for always being up for any photo shoot & for the images you took of me & my family! Love you both!
